For our 2027 Lunch we are proud to support the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity (ECHC) which works specifically with Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (previously known as The Sick Kids).

 

Every day, the hospital sees around 500 seriously ill children and their families facing a potentially life-changing visit, and the ECHC works tirelessly to make those experiences as positive, comforting and supportive as possible.

The charity brings the things the NHS alone cannot: the magician who appears at a bedside to brighten a long day; play that distracts from painful procedures; a comforting presence at a parent's side when they hear the worst possible news. ECHC fund and run a welcoming physical space, The Hub, based in the hospital where trained staff are on hand to support families. They offer a listening ear, practical guidance, and emergency essentials for worried parents and carers. ECHC also provides hope. Thanks to private donations, the charity funds life-changing medical equipment over and above NHS budgets for the hospital – from high-tech machinery like gamma cameras for detecting conditions in cancer and epilepsy, to pain and anxiety reduction tools like virtual reality headsets.

 

It is important to say that ECHC is completely independent of the NHS and does not replace NHS funding. Everything ECHC do is only made possible through the generosity of donors.
